chasing natalie

I never know what to say in these things... I love Christ, my daughter, my two cats Jack and Bob, my job: making websites for churches and non-profits. I'm trying to learn how to play the guitar. I live near the beach but I don't have a view. I love the work Compassion International is doing and I try and support their efforts as God allows me. I'd love to be a photojournalist for a relief organization one day and travel the world taking pictures and documenting what's going on for others to see and get involved. James 1:27 says that religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Good times

Today started out with mickey mouse pancakes for breakfast and then the daffodil festival in tacoma to watch the parade. After the parade we went out to lunch at Jimmy Macs. They have really good seafood chowder and peach cobbler ala mode. About an hour later we went to see Aliens vs. Monsters…(wait for the dvd). After the movie we walked around the mall and I picked up a really cool purse from a little Ecuador kiosk in the mall. If you want to help support a great ministry in Ecuador visit compassion connection. They’re the real deal. Good friends of ours were missionaries in Ecuador through compassion connection for years. On our way home we stopped by the beach to look for seashells.

Oh, I left out a really great part…earlier in the day a friend of mine who had just bought a new car had to return to the dealership to finalize the financing…this person has had bad luck in the past with buying cars and dealerships. Knowing this, I said a prayer that God’s will would be done, that cooler heads would prevail and He would intervene if needed. I almost expected to hear bad news from my friend when he called. But God is bigger than that, He’s better than that. My friend let me know that not only did it go smoothly but somehow 3k got knocked off the price…this is not the kind of luck my friend usually has. I told him about my prayer and he totally agreed…it was a God thing.

Praise God!

I’m so thankful this afternoon! I have been praying and believing for a new mac for years for my home office. The price is so high that it seemed like just a dream. Then today one of my co-workers overheard me talking about it and mentioned that his brother was selling one for about half the retail price… I am SO PSYCHED! I’m so grateful that God heard my prayers and blessed me with this tool that will help me serve others more efficiently and effectively!

pretty great co-workers

I have some pretty great co-workers.

Today Bill and I were walking to the barbecue joint (I always get the baked potato) and on the way back I noticed a lady sitting in her car with the hood propped up. I just kind of casually asked her if she was having car trouble (I know…here’s your sign).

She said yes and so I volunteered to go back to the office and recruit someone who actually knew anything about cars to come out and see what they could do. Steve and Ed came out and gave it their best shot to try and get it running but it was something more serious than just a jump start.

Also, I noticed a little baby in the backseat, so I offered to give her a ride home, but she started making some phone calls and was able to get a mechanic to come out and take a look.

I had to leave for the rest of the afternoon, but I trust she will be taken care of.

This afternoon my boss, steve and daryl all helped deliver a very heavy sleeper sofa to my apt.

I tried to pay them in girl scout cookies but they wouldn’t hear of it.

Anyway, I just wanted to mention I have some pretty great co-workers. A bunch of guys who take time out of their day to help a single mom in a broken down car and later that day deliver a very heavy sofa to another one.

ragamuffinsoul on hold

wow, I just watched a video from carlos saying he was taking a blogatical. Why is this significant to me personally? Because a few years ago, it was his blog that inspired me to start blogging. So the fact that he’s signing off without any idea of when he’s going to sign back on is very interesting. If it wasn’t for his blog, I wonder if I would have ever caught the blogging bug? Unless you blog regularly you probably don’t have any idea what I’m talking about. If you do blog regularly, than you know it’s been an avenue for you to express yourself more openly, more honestly than maybe you ever have before. It can be a door to a cyber-community of peers, authors, artists that inspire you and more. So much more. Over the last couple of years I’ve watched families be created, people being healed, people mourning the loss of loved ones, babies being born. Oh I should mention I have like 83 blogs in my reader, so a lot has happened over the years. Will I ever meet the majority of these people, probably not, but it doesn’t matter to me. I’ve prayed when they’ve asked me to pray, I’ve celebrated and praised God when they were blessed and through all of it…I’ve felt a little less alone. Yes, I am a big cheese, but don’t you kind of have to be to belong to the blogosphere… So Carlos, thanks again for everything you have done for the thousands of people who read your blog everyday. I know this will be a healing time for you and your family and you will come back to continue to inspire others to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

NOAH'S ARK

Man Builds Noah’s Ark (exact scale given in Bible)

Working Replica of Noah’s Ark Opened In SCHAGEN, Netherlands

The massive central door in the side of Noah’s Ark was opened the first crowd of curious townsfolk to behold the wonder. Of course, it’s only a replica of the biblical Ark , built by Dutch Creationist Johan Huibers as a testament to his faith in the literal truth of the Bible.

The ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. That’s two-thirds the length of a football field and as high as a three-story house.

Life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals greet visitors as they arrive in the main hold.

A contractor by trade, Huibers built the ark of cedar and pine. Biblical Scholars debate exactly what the wood used by Noah would have been.

Huibers did the work mostly with his own hands, using modern tools and with occasional help from his son Roy. Construction began in May 2005. On the uncovered top - deck not quite ready in time for the opening - will come a petting zoo, with baby lambs and chickens, and goats, and one camel.

Visitors on the first day were stunned. ‘It’s past comprehension’, said Mary Louise Starosciak, who happened to be bicycling by with her husband while on vacation when they saw the ark looming over the local landscape.

‘I knew the story of Noah, but I had no idea the boat would have been so big ’ There is enough space near the keel for a 50-seat film theater where kids can watch a video that tells the story of Noah and his ark. Huibers, a Christian man, said he hopes the project will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands, where church going has fallen dramatically in the past 50 years.

Now that I am old and Gray…give me the time to tell This new generation (and their children too) About all your mighty miracles.
Psalm 71:18

wednesday randomness

randomness seems to be catching on…

This morning on my way to work I drove pass a lake that used to be pasture. It was covered in early morning fog and there were five or six swans in the middle. It was the most mystical scene I’ve ever seen…

I feel I’m making great progress in learning CSS…so I don’t find it at all helpful that this book is now available…

My daughter likes Granny Smith apples, I don’t, but it’s lunch time, so I’m eating these sour apples.

I finally took down my Christmas tree

I dressed down today because I thought my boss wasn’t going to be in, but he showed up anyway.

I watched a program last night on the history of economy…fascinating stuff

I don’t think my boss reads my bog…which is either a good or sad thing…

random blessings - big ones!

My daughter was awarded her school’s trait of the month award for being organized. Winners were recognized in front of all their peers at an all school assembly. I am so proud of her!

My best friend has been waiting for her house to close for 4 months and it finally happened yesterday! Praise God!

I just received a letter in the mail letting me know that a debt I’ve been trying to show as paid on my credit report for 7 years is finally going to show as paid. It was for $4400. It was the biggest debt I had, and after seven years I finally feel like there’s hope of having good credit one day, buying a home, etc.

Praise God!

special treats

The snow is finally gone and I’m able to drive around again. However I haven’t caught up on my grocery shopping, so this morning my daughter and I walked to the corner cafe and ordered warm drinks and pasteries. It was a cold walk but a good one. It was fun standing outside waiting for our breakfast. For a moment I wished that we’d run out of breakfast food more often…

God Bless old bosses

So I wasn’t really havin’ the best of times today. It’s not just about not being able to see my family on Christmas Eve or helping my friend get his car towed out of a ditch, it was all that and more. I just wasn’t feeling in high spirits. I was feeling a little down actually.

So I decided to go out and check the mail. I told my daughter…maybe there will be something in there that will lift my spirits…

What I found was a total blessing. A card and gift cards for dinner and a movie from my old boss.

I almost wanted to cry as I was reading the card.

Until I got his note, I wasn’t feeling appreciated or cared about and then in a moment everything felt better.

It was a wonderful gift and it truly lifted my spirits. So, Randy, I pray blessings on you and your whole family this Christmas season! Thank you!

p.s. I just had a funny thought…sometimes the timing of when you get a gift can really make you treasure it and appreciate it that much more…sort of like how you’re supposed to feel about all the gifts you receive…
